Extract the pre-tax base amount and GST component from an all-inclusive price.
Use this free GST inclusive calculator to extract the base price and GST amount from any GST-inclusive total.
A GST inclusive price is the total amount a buyer pays, which already includes the GST. For example, if a product costs 1,180 rupees inclusive of 18% GST, the base price is 1,000 rupees and the GST is 180 rupees.
This is different from a GST exclusive price, where GST is added on top of the base price.
To find the base price from a GST-inclusive amount, divide the total by (1 + GST rate). For 18% GST: Base price = Inclusive amount divided by 1.18.
GST amount = Inclusive amount minus the calculated base price. This calculator does the extraction automatically for any GST slab.
Retail businesses commonly display GST inclusive prices so customers see the final amount to pay. MRP (Maximum Retail Price) in India is always GST inclusive.
When raising a tax invoice for a retail sale, you must show the base price and GST separately even if the customer paid an inclusive price.
GST exclusive: base price + GST = total. GST inclusive: the total already includes GST and you reverse-calculate the base.
Always clarify whether a quoted price is inclusive or exclusive of GST to avoid billing errors and client disputes.
Under GST rules, a tax invoice must show the taxable value (base price) and GST amount separately. Use this calculator to extract those values from any inclusive price.
