CGST Calculator: Compute Central GST Online for Free

Use this free CGST calculator to find the Central GST component for any intra-state sale in India.

What Is CGST?

CGST stands for Central Goods and Services Tax. It is the portion of GST collected by the Central Government on intra-state transactions, meaning sales within the same state. For an 18% GST rate on an intra-state sale, 9% goes to CGST and 9% goes to SGST (State GST).

CGST replaced central taxes like central excise duty and service tax when GST was introduced in India in 2017.

When Does CGST Apply?

CGST applies to all taxable intra-state supply of goods and services. If you are a business in Maharashtra selling to a customer also in Maharashtra, the transaction is subject to CGST plus SGST.

For inter-state transactions (between different states), IGST applies instead of CGST and SGST.

How to Calculate CGST

CGST is half the total GST rate. For example, if the GST rate is 18%, then CGST is 9%. Multiply the base price by 9% to get the CGST amount. The SGST amount will be the same.

This calculator does the math for you. Enter the base amount and select the total GST rate. The tool shows you the CGST amount separately.

CGST vs SGST vs IGST

CGST and SGST are collected on intra-state sales, split equally between the central and state governments. IGST is collected on inter-state sales and is split between the central government and the destination state.

On a GST invoice for intra-state sales, you must show CGST and SGST as separate line items with their individual amounts.

Where to Show CGST on an Invoice

On a GST tax invoice for intra-state sales, show the base price, then the CGST amount and rate, then the SGST amount and rate, and finally the total. Both CGST and SGST should be shown as separate tax lines.
